Someone left a light on for me.
At thirteen, Ted Johnson entered the foster home of Peg and Jerry Gorman at 5 Cedar Hill Road in Simsbury, Connecticut.
The Gormans did not begin with a national plan. They opened their home. Ted became the first of fifty-seven young people welcomed there over the years.
That ordinary act of hospitality became the foundation of The Light in the Window and, later, Leave One Light On: an invitation to notice one person, care, take one practical step, and repeat.
The movement does not ask anyone to do everything. It asks each of us to consider one thing we can do with dignity and care.
